Seizing the opportunities from change of preference

When ENTER scores are released, you may be one of the many VCE students who are considering new opportunities or looking at alternative study options.

"Receiving your results can be a fairly emotional time, regardless of whether your expectations were met or not," says Swinburne careers consultant Judi Green.

"It's a time when you want to celebrate or commiserate with friends. You may not want to focus on deciding which course to study. However, this is a great opportunity to select the best course for you."

"If you're happy with your course selection, don't feel obliged to change it, but a higher ENTER may open up new opportunities. On the other hand, if your ENTER is lower than you expected, you can apply for different courses for which you are eligible.

"Most courses and careers can be approached from a variety of entry points. A lower than expected ENTER may change your approach to a career, it won't necessarily stop it."

Swinburne offers both TAFE and Higher Education study, giving students in many courses the opportunity to transfer into a degree program from their TAFE course.

Swinburne's Change of Preference Information Day is on 19 December from 3.00pm to 6.00pm at the Hawthorn and Lilydale campuses for students who want to find out more about studying at Swinburne.

Current and prospective students and their parents will have the opportunity to discuss options with course representatives, attend information sessions and take a campus tour. Sessions about pathway options, scholarships and returning to study will be running throughout the evening, as well as information sessions on specific courses.

Students who are unable to make it to the information evening can call the Change of Preference Hotline on 1300 368 777 from Monday 17 December to Friday 21 December, 9am-5.30pm and Monday 24 December, 9am-12noon.

Swinburne's website www.swinburne.edu.au also features an online ENTER calculator where students can type in their ENTER score to view all of their course options available.
